Many authors get stuck in presenting certain subjects the same way. In this article we see a fresh perspective on the battle that Paul had with his own human nature. He, Paul, had a firm understanding of God’s law and the insight given in keeping it. He was also well aware of the lifelong struggle required to overcome his sinful nature. That struggle likened to that of being shackled to a dead body. “Who will release and deliver me from [the shackles of] this body of death?” A common punishment doled out by Roman authorities of that time was to chain murderers to their victims. This shocking practice truly conveys our daily struggle. We face a grueling and sometimes overwhelming realization that with each step forward we become more aware of the dying man we carry.
