The Exodus Plagues ucg.org
This interesting article tells a concise story of ancient Israel’s exodus from slavery in Egypt by God through a deliverer named Moses. Along with establishing His power as the one true God and securing freedom for the Israelites, another purpose was to destroy the nation of Egypt through a series of plagues that directly challenged specific Egyptian gods. Khunm, god of the Nile was powerless to prevent the first plague of turning water to blood. God executed judgment on Egypt’s attempted genocide when they threw Hebrew babies into the Nile. Osiris, god of vegetation was silent to prevent the eighth plague of locusts from devouring all agriculture, a primary source of food. The plagues were not random. He sent them to specifically show Egypt and Israel that He was greater than all gods of Egypt. Israel then trusted and acted by putting blood on their door posts which protected them from the tenth plague, the death of all firstborn. God delivered His people from slavery and sin to make a new nation. That same rescue from sin and slavery is available to us today through Jesus Christ’s blood.
